Joanna Owens

Johanna B. Owens focuses her practice in the areas of real estate law, probate, and corporate law.  She writes frequently on topics related to her practice, such as issues related to contract warranties, business formation, mitigating litigation risks, construction, wills, and asset protection.  Ms. Owens was also an intern to the Honorable C. Weston Houck, United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina, the Honorable Robert S. Carr, United States Magistrate Judge for the District of South Carolina, and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Ms. Owens earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the College of Charleston, graduating cum laude in 2001.  She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina in 2004 and is admitted to practice in South Carolina.  During law school, Ms. Owens was a recipient of the CALI Award in Real Estate Transactions II and Land Use Planning, was on the Dean's List, and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.  During her undergraduate studies, Ms. Owens received Departmental Honors and the Outstanding Student Award in Political Science, and was a member of Golden Key National Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Pi Sigma Alpha.  She is also an alumna member of Alumna of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. 

Ms. Owens is an active member of numerous local legal and political organizations, including the Dorchester County Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar Association.  Ms. Owens is also a member of the Junior League of Charleston, the chairman and founder of the Lowcountry Young Republicans, and a member of the South Carolina Republican Party Platform and Resolutions Committee and Rules Committee.  Ms. Owens recently co-presented a lecture entitled "Arbitration and Other Related Matters" to the Home Builders Association of South Carolina Convention, and her published articles include:
